Christmas Tree Farms Near Portland, Maine: Who Is Actually Open in 2026 and Who Is Not
The most useful thing to know before you go looking for a cut-your-own Christmas tree near Portland is that the lists you will find online are out of date, and some are wrong in ways that cost you a drive. A farm one popular directory describes as selling precut balsam only is a cut-your-own field that will open for exactly one weekend this year. A farm that shows up on every roundup is closed while it regrows its stock. Everything below was read off each farm's own website on October 17, 2026, and where a farm has not posted anything yet, we say so instead of guessing.
Beech Ridge Farm in Scarborough opens one weekend only
Beech Ridge Farm's page says plainly: "We are closed for 2025. Opening day for 2026 is November 27th, 2026." It then adds that the farm will be open one weekend only, November 27, 28 and 29, which is the Friday after Thanksgiving through Sunday. Hours posted are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the fields, with the barn closing at 4:30 p.m.
This is a real cut-your-own operation. You can bring a handsaw or a battery reciprocating saw, chainsaws of any kind are banned, pets are not allowed, and you may not drive onto the fields. The farm suggests bringing cardboard, a knee cushion or a tarp to help you cut and haul. Payment by cash, card or mobile wallet is listed.
The price question has a catch. The farm's products page lists balsam fir at $85.31 plus tax for any size, choose and cut in the field or precut from the barn, with decorated wreaths at $28.44 and undecorated at $18.96. The page carries no year, and its metadata shows it was last modified November 19, 2025. Read that as last season's rate until the farm confirms it. A one-weekend season is also a crowd warning: with one shot at it, plan to arrive early on the Friday or Saturday rather than Sunday afternoon.
The farm's page does not print a street address. A third-party directory lists it on Beech Ridge Road in Scarborough, and that directory also calls it a precut-only stop, which the farm's own page contradicts.

Balsam Ridge in Raymond opens November 21
Balsam Ridge Christmas Tree Farm, at 140 Egypt Road in Raymond, states "Opening for 2026 Christmas Season November 21st," which is a Saturday. Its page also says "Open Saturdays 10:00 am - 3:00 pm," though it does not say whether that Saturday schedule is the Christmas schedule or a year-round one, so call (207) 655-4474 before you build a day around it. The site sells handcrafted wreaths and takes online orders seven days a week for pickup or shipping.
What the page does not say matters. It lists no tree species, no tree prices, and does not state whether trees are cut in the field or precut. Treat Balsam Ridge as confirmed open and unconfirmed on everything else. It is also a maple farm, which is worth knowing if you want to turn a tree trip into a syrup run.
McNeally Farms in Gorham is closed and rebuilding
McNeally Farms' balsam page reads: "We have been working hard and planting new tree stock to rebuild our Christmas tree inventory." It adds that "Trees take time to grow and we are looking forward to re-opening in the coming years." No reopening year is given, and the page was last modified in November 2024. Do not drive to Gorham for a tree this year. This is the clearest example of why a directory listing is not a season.
Old Farm Christmas Place in Cape Elizabeth is the old standby, with no 2026 dates yet
The Old Farm Christmas Place sits just off Sawyer Road in Cape Elizabeth. Its Cape Elizabeth Land Trust listing describes a farm "owned with CELT easement," land that was protected in 1994, with trees planted from 2002 and offered seasonally, plus hot chocolate, wagon rides and bonfires. VisitMaine's agricultural attractions page describes choose-and-cut balsam firs with wagon rides and a bonfire. Neither page gives season dates, hours or prices.
The farm's own website blocked our automated read, so we could not confirm 2026 dates or prices from the source. That is the honest status: you should confirm the opening weekend with the farm directly before you go. If it has posted dates by the time you read this, trust its page over ours.
Farms we could not confirm
Several other names circulate on directories for the Greater Portland area, among them Staples Christmas Tree Farm in Windham, Hanscome's in North Yarmouth, Vining's in Cumberland and Merry Christmas Trees in Windham. None of them had a 2026 season published on a page we could read, and one directory flags Vining's as presumed closed for 2023. We are not listing them as open. Treat any of them as a phone call, not a plan.
How to plan a tree trip when half the farms have not posted
Start with the two confirmed dates, November 21 for Balsam Ridge and November 27 to 29 for Beech Ridge. Thanksgiving is November 26, so the Friday after is the traditional first big day, and the governor proclaimed that Friday Maine Grown Christmas Tree Day in both 2024 and 2025. If you want a tree with a bonfire and hot chocolate rather than just a field, the Cape Elizabeth farm is the one to watch once it posts its dates. Bring cash as a backup, a tarp, and rope; many farms bale the tree for you, but a Scarborough cut-your-own field expects you to haul.
If the tree is only part of the plan, the holiday events guide covers the lights, parades and ticketed shows around it, and the apple picking guide notes which orchards keep selling trees and cider into December. For a winter afternoon after the tree is strapped to the roof, see snow tubing near Portland.
FAQ
When do Christmas tree farms near Portland, Maine open in 2026?
Two farms have posted dates. Balsam Ridge in Raymond opens November 21, and Beech Ridge Farm in Scarborough opens November 27 and runs only that weekend, November 27 to 29. Most others had not posted a 2026 season on a page we could read as of October 17.
How much does a cut-your-own Christmas tree cost near Portland?
Only one farm publishes a price we could read. Beech Ridge Farm lists balsam fir at $85.31 plus tax for any size, but the page was last modified in November 2025 and carries no year, so confirm it for 2026. Older directory prices of $40 to $50 are years out of date.
Is Beech Ridge Farm cut-your-own or precut?
Both. Its products page says "Any size - Choose & Cut (field) or Precut (barn)." Bring your own handsaw; chainsaws are not allowed.
Is McNeally Farms in Gorham selling Christmas trees this year?
No. The farm's own page says it is rebuilding its tree inventory and looks forward to reopening in the coming years, with no year given.
Do I need to call ahead for a Christmas tree farm in Maine?
Yes. Several farms post their season late, and at least one popular directory lists farms as open that have closed or limited their season to a single weekend. Confirm dates and hours with the farm the week you go.
